Mountaineering Expeditions in Ladakh
Mentok Kangri (6250m) is a striking peak located on the western shores of the vast and remote Tso Moriri lake in the Changthang region of Ladakh. The mountain’s isolated setting, combined with the turquoise waters of the lake below, makes this expedition one of the most scenic mountaineering experiences in the region.
The climb typically begins from Korzok village and can be completed in three to four days, making Mentok Kangri an excellent choice for climbers looking for a short but fulfilling high-altitude expedition. While the ascent is physically demanding due to altitude, it does not involve extreme technical difficulties.
From the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Chamser and Lungser Kangri massifs across Tso Moriri, the endless Changthang plateau, and on clear days, distant views stretching toward the Tibetan plateau.
For proper acclimatization, the Mentok Kangri climb is best combined with longer trekking routes such as the Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek, the Hemis to Tso Moriri trek, or the Zanskar to Tso Moriri trek. These routes allow gradual altitude gain while showcasing some of Ladakh’s most remote landscapes and nomadic culture.
