Chamser and Lungser Kangri Expedition

Chamser & Lungser Kangri Expedition

Chamser Kangri (6620m) and Lungser Kangri (6666m) dominate the eastern skyline of the magnificent Tso Moriri lake, forming one of the most visually striking mountain groups in the Changthang region of Ladakh. Their impressive height and relatively straightforward routes make them excellent objectives for climbers seeking to push beyond the 6500-meter mark.

Although these peaks do not involve highly technical climbing, the primary challenge lies in the extreme altitude. Strong physical conditioning, careful pacing, and proper acclimatization are essential for a safe and successful ascent. These expeditions are therefore best suited for well-prepared amateur climbers with prior high-altitude experience.

The climb usually starts from Korzok village and takes between five and seven days, depending on weather conditions and acclimatization schedules. The route passes through vast open landscapes typical of the Changthang plateau, offering a deep sense of remoteness and solitude.

As with Mentok Kangri, the ideal way to approach Chamser and Lungser Kangri is by combining the expedition with a longer trek such as the Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek, the Hemis to Tso Moriri trek, or the Zanskar to Tso Moriri trek. These approaches allow gradual altitude gain while showcasing some of Ladakh’s most untouched terrain and nomadic culture.
